Pliny the Elder (Roman author, naturalist and natural philosopher, and naval/army commander) fantasied on the ostrich's mythical ability to eat iron and glass, which earned the big bird a reputation as an iron-eater, and symbolized strength through resistance and hardship.

I find these animals interesting as they are strong, funny and clumsy, and at the same time remarkable. Ostriches lay the largest eggs of any living land animal and can run at 70 km/h (43.5 mph), which makes them the fastest birds on land. For this painting I’ve used a picture which made me curious and happy from the way the bird is staring at you, like the one who says “What's up dude? Have you lost something?”
