From ‘The art of the great Hollywood portrait photographers 1925-1940’ by John Kobal (New York, 1980) I chose a black-and-white photograph by Henry Waxman, picturing Evelyn Brent in 1926. She could have been a Roman empress or an Indian princess. She has a beautiful sharp profile.
The patterns, the fabrics and different textures of hair, scarf and skin inspired me to make this colorful and vibrant painting. Even her bare and bleak skin joins in with the colourfulness by its pinkish shine.
